Certificate in Psychology

 

The Certificate in Psychology is comprised of three courses as follows:

 

Perspectives in Psychology and Biological Bases of Behaviour:

physiological, psychodynamic, cognitive, humanistic, nature/nurture debate, ethics in research, biological psychology, visual sensory system, nervous system, stress & anxiety.

 

Cognitive Psychology and Human Development: perception, memory, Piaget, socialization, play, language acquisition

 

Social Psychology; Research Methods and Statistics

attitudes, conformity, leadership, group decision making, introduction to various research methods, use of statistics.

 It is necessary to study the Certificate in Psychology before advancing to the Diploma in Psychology.

 

Diploma in Psychology

The Diploma in Psychology is comprised of five courses as follows:

 

Perspectives and Biopsychology:

physiological, psychodynamic, cognitive, behavioral, humanistic. Advertising, propaganda, warfare, motivation, emotion, sleep.

 

Cognition and Human Development:

attention, thinking, language, problem solving, language acquisition, IQ, moral development.

 

Social Psychology and Personality:

affiliation, friendship, inter-group relations, aggression, personality theory & abnormal psychology

 

Abnormal Behaviour and Comparative Psychology: disabilities and learning and behavioral difficulties, animal communication, social behaviour of animals.

 

Research project:

students will undertake a research project of their own.

Assessment

 

Assessment is via examinations set and marked in the UK.

 

Examination Registration

Examinations are held in March, June, September and December of each year. Students need to register for the exam eight weeks before the exam date.

 

Entry requirements - Certificate

Seventeen years of age or over, with five CSECs at grade ‘C’ or above

or

Over nineteen years of age and has been in full-time employment for a minimum of 2 years.

Diploma

ICM Certificate in Psychology.

 

Textbook

The basic text for the course is: ‘Introductory Psychology’ by T.Malim & A. Birch (Macmillan Publishers)

Nations Library

All students are eligible to become members of Nations Library. Some copies of the recommended books are available for borrowing.

 

Classes

Classes for the Certificate and Diploma courses will be held one evening per week from 5 to 7 pm.

 

Fees - Certificate

ICM Registration Fee = G$12,000. This must be paid within eight weeks of commencement of studies.

 

Examination Fees

G$9,000 for each of the three examinations = G$27,000

 

Course Fee

G$48,000 for Certificate Programme payable in eight monthly installments of $6,000.

 

G$2,000 for invigilation of each examination and to courier scripts = $6000

 

                                                   Certificate Total = G$93,000

 

 

Fees - Diploma

ICM Registration Fee = G$12,000. This must be paid within eight weeks of commencement of studies.

 

Examination Fees

G$9,000 for each of the five examinations = G$45,000

 

Course Fee

G$80,000 for Diploma Programme payable in eight monthly installments of $10,000.

 

G$2,000 for invigilation of each examination and to courier scripts = G$10,000.

 

                                 Diploma Total = G$147,000
